An exciting opportunity has arisen for a software analyst/developer to join an established team developing and supporting enterprise applications within our client. The role attracts a salary of up to £39,610 as well as an attractive benefits package.

Part of a £25m a year IT department, the software development team work on systems affecting all areas of university life, from admissions and enrolment through selecting course options, studying and living at the University to co-ordination and booking of graduation ceremonies, not to mention administration functions such as HR and finance.

Who You'll Be

You will be based in their newly established office in the centre of Newcastle – a short walk from Metro and bus services at Haymarket – where you will have an electrically height-adjustable desk, wide screen monitors and a flexible, agile approach to working. Key Accountabilities

  1. To design, develop, implement and provide on-going support of one or more major University business systems to support the requirements of the University, in accordance with the agreed development standards and using the most appropriate development tools.
  2. To specify and design an IT solution and, where required, the systems architecture to meet an approved business development, according to agreed standards. This will involve agreeing with the line manager the appropriate technology; programming and technical configuration according to design specifications and agreed standards; and planning, executing and managing any necessary integration activities between the University's core business systems and other key internal and external systems.
  3. To plan, design, manage, execute and report tests to ensure that all systems and interfaces perform as expected. Where required, to lead, plan and manage user acceptance testing as appropriate to ensure that the system performs to user and all other requirements prior to full implementation.
  4. To provide production system support including version management and change control for a specific system or system area. To monitor the system's performance, correct faults, devise work arounds and update system documentation in order to provide the necessary support to the user and to ensure that the system is operating to the required standards.
  5. To provide advice to users about the system's functionality and to manage the on going relationship with users to ensure those IT systems enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of business processes throughout the University.
  6. On occasion the post holder may be reasonably requested to carry out duties not specifically described in this job description. Such requests will be in the interests of maintaining the smooth running and delivery of Corporate Systems services to customers and stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Practical experience as web developer using modern frontend development frameworks (preferably Vue.js, Ember.js, JQuery)
  • Practical experience in .Net development (C#)
  • Experience of version and change control management
  • Experience of employing object oriented design principles
  • Experience working closely with business analysts and/or endusers to deliver high quality solutions to business requirements
  • Knowledge of web and integration technologies (e.g.HTML,XML,CSS, Javascript, Ajax, scripting languages, portals, middleware)
  • Experience of either the provision and consumption of web services or developing mobile apps (native or cross-platform)
  • Experience of either the provision and consumption of web services or developing mobile apps (native or cross-platform)
