Business Intelligence Developer Ronald James Group 2020-03-03

This is a fantastic opportunity for a recent graduate or existing BIprofessional to join one of the North-East's leading and fastest growing IT service organisations based in Aspire's head office at Heworth Hall.

The role will primarily involve developing and maintaining Aspire's in-house Business Intelligence portfolio, which centres around Microsoft SQL for data processing and Power BI for visualisation and consumption. The role will also include other internal development projects to drive efficiencies and new capabilities within  the growing business. They're looking for an engaging, friendly, and professional person, who  can effectively communicate  with a range of key stakeholders. 

You will possess the drive, enthusiasm, and ambition to form part of a dynamic team within a fast-moving company. You need to be willing to embrace challenges and will have the opportunity to contribute to the future shape and direction of the team.  

Aspire will also give you the resources you require in order for you to achieve Microsoft certifications and stay at the cutting edge of the transforming landscape of BI and data processing. This will provide you with excellent grounding for the future, where you will be working on projects of varying sizes and be given more ambitious projects as you develop and prove your skills.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required


As a BI developer you will be required to have the following skills and experience:

  • Highly numerate

  • Good understanding of database technologies and SQL coding

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to excellence

  • An interest in people, culture, and the user experience

  • An interest in organisational KPIs, capabilities and processes.

  • An interest in the changing modern data processing landscape.

  • A willingness to learn and excellent communication skills


Guidance and coaching will be provided for you to acquire the following skillsets as required, but possessing existing experience would bean advantage:

  • Experience producing Power BI Reports, or in a similar technology like Qlik / Tableau.
  • Experience writing sophisticated SQL Stored Procedures in a production environment.
  • Experience assisting and supporting diverse teams of people.
  • Experience of financial reporting in a commercial context.
  • Experience troubleshooting in a legacy codebase.
  • Understanding of the agile software development lifecycle and test-driven development.
