Business Intelligence Engineer Ronald James Group 2019-11-01

Our client is looking for an experienced Business Intelligence Engineer to join to their Business Intelligence team, building solutions to connect key data from Opia's various back-end systems with business users to deliver insights.

Your key responsibilities will focus on ETL; implementing the technical solutions to collect data from their various internal and third-party systems and making that data available to their teams to derive key insights. You will work alongside the Head of Technology to implement solutions and build the Business Intelligence roadmap.

Although the Business Intelligence team is fairly new with our client, you will be working as part of the larger development team and will have the opportunity to gain exposure to all aspects of their technology stack.

You'll be given the creative freedom to bring your own ideas and solutions to the table. You won't just be given pre-defined solutions to implement, you'll be given the business goals and will work together with key stakeholders within the business to design the best solution. Their existing BI solutions are based on the Microsoft Power BI stack, so experience with that is essential.

  • Power BI
  • Confidence with at least 1 programming language
  • MySQL, Postgres, or other SQL databases
  • Version control (Git)
  • Proficient with Excel

Any experience with the below would be advantageous, but not essential:

  • Good understanding of HTTP and web APIs
  • Developing Power BI Custom Connectors
  • Experience using the M language
  • Understanding of Tabular Modelling
  • Experience with ETL Procedures

The Environment

Their development teams include experts in every aspect of software engineering, who you'll be able to learn from and bounce ideas off.

Growth of their people is a core value; they understand that your learning is never finished, which is why you'll be given a generous annual Personal Development Budget to spend on books, training courses, conferences, and more. In addition, we sponsor local developer meetups, and encourage their team to take part in regular internal developer conference days.
