DevOps Engineer Ronald James Group 2024-09-06

We’re looking for a DevOps Engineer who is looking to take on more responsibility in shaping the future of their next company. This company has enjoyed continued growth over the past few years, leading us to the point where they need additional DevOps Engineers to help make improvements and meet the new and growing demands on their existing platforms.

This company prides itself on the freedoms it provides for its employees & provides some really great benefits, including unlimited holidays.

Some of the responsibilities:

  • Collaboration: You’re someone who wants to work with others. Collaboration is challenging, especially in a remote environment, so we’re looking for committed team players.

  • Open-mindedness: You’ll have strong opinions that are weakly held. We want opinionated and articulate people who are also open to listening to others and having their views changed.

  • Self-management: You’ll be disciplined and able to self-manage. You’ll often work on tasks independently, striving towards agreed outcomes and communicating issues to the team as they arise.

  • Curiosity and Learning: You’ll be inquisitive and eager to learn. Understanding our current platform and constantly asking “what if?” is just as important as learning new technologies.

  • Prioritisation: You’ll be able to prioritise effectively and say no politely. There’s always more demand than capacity, so prioritising the most valuable tasks and letting people down gently is crucial.

Some of the key requirements:

  • AWS: Experience with multiple accounts, cross-account IAM users & policies, and multi-AZ.

  • Infrastructure as Code: Experience with Terraform/Terragrunt, Ansible, and Architect.

  • Node.js/JavaScript: Ability to read and understand code. Writing production-ready code is not essential, but an understanding of issues is beneficial.

  • Debian: Experience with Debian OS.

  • Postgres: Experience with Postgres replication, pgbouncer, failover, and possibly Aurora.

  • Redis: Experience with Redis as a session store.

  • RabbitMQ: Basic understanding; not essential.

  • CI/CD Pipelines: Experience in designing and building Jenkins pipelines.

  • Monitoring and Logging Tools: Experience with Datadog, Elastic - Beats/Kibana (APM), and PagerDuty.

  • ECS Fargate/Kubernetes: Familiarity with these technologies.

  • Git and GitHub: Proficiency with Git and GitHub.
