Java Software Engineer Ronald James Group 2020-02-05

Working in a small team environment design and develop software solutions for manual and automated warehousing operations in support of the company's complete product portfolio

  • To adhere to the appropriate design strategies and development methodologies, as define by the Software Engineering Manager and Company quality procedures.
  • To fully document all requirements definition, design, implementation and testing to the required standards
  • To contribute to the definition of project designs and the project development process, as requested.
  • To undertake the delivery of a defined part of a project, including design, implementation, testing, integration (in-house and on-site) and documentation. Using Java EE and Java related technologies.
  • To proactively work to develop and maintain good working relationships within the department, company and customers.
  • On occasions participate in sale, implementation and support activities at client sites.

Who You'll Be

  • To maintain an awareness of new and related technologies.
  • Produce unit test scripts and to run testing of new systems and enhancements to existing systems.
  • Test and support off-shore developed software systems.
  • Ensure responsibilities is taken regarding work packages, including costs are met, and tasks are scheduled appropriately and all deliverables are produce in accordance with our clients' quality standards.
  • To draw to the attention of the technical leader to problems which will adversely affect the outcome of the module which he or she is responsible for, and where possible to work towards solutions to the problems.
  • To provide timely progress informations and reports to the technical leader.
  • To technical assists members of the team and department
  • To ensure that documentation produce for project components which he or she is responsible is kept up-to-date.
  • To proactively work to develop and maintain good working relationships within the department, company and customers.

Educational/Professional Qualifications

Essential - at least 4 of the following

  • Object Oriented Analysis and Design
  • Strong Java (SE,EE)
  • Enterprise frameworks: EJB 3.2
  • Enterprise JAVA API's - JPA, JMS
  • SQL programming

Also, Essential

  • Understanding of Relational database concepts and architecture
  • Object of Relational Modelling
  • Degree in computing or related subject


  • Application Server: WebLogic, Glassfish, JBoss
  • Java Web technologies JSF/JSP
  • HTML/CSS, Web technologies and constructs
  • XML, XSD
  • UNIX and Windows operation systems
  • Network and sockets programming
  • Knowledge of a source code control systems e.g: Subversion, PVCS.
  • Eclipse IDE, Maven, TOAD
  • Continuous integration tools e.g. Hudson/Jenkins.
  • Oracle/SQL Server DBA

Necessary Experience


  • Experience in a commercial software development environment
  • Previous experience of working in a team providing software solutions


  • Experience of the supply chain or logistics industry
  • Experience of leading a software project team
