In their capacity as design team lead, the Principal Designer will need to develop the team’s capabilities, ensuring the team have current knowledge of their disciplines, taking stimulus from external authorities and keeping up to date with relevant consumer and technology trends.
Understanding the external high-reaching environment will be critical to the role and you will need to drive a discipline of using this knowledge to design a visual brand and customer experiences aligned to our client's strategy to digitise and disrupt.
Responsible for the client's brand visual design across the business, owning the development and iteration of our brand design and visual identity, aligned to our overall brand identity and accountable to the Chief Marketing Officer.
Provide in-house design services to the business, providing guidance, design development and branded assets as needed.
Ensure full documentation of the visual identity, including detailed visual design guidelines and asset library that can be used across the business as appropriate.
Accountable for ensuring our brand design is at the top tier edge of design thinking, being highly customer centric, whilst maintaining a differentiated edge that clearly expresses our client's brand positioning.
Manage a team of designers to deliver market leading customer experiences, rooted in strong customer experience development disciplines and aligned with our client's design standards.
Deliver the visual identity, information architecture and journey design for this client’s customer-facing platforms (currently app and website), working closely with our development teams to ensure design elements can be practically delivered.
Create graphic elements, assets and visual treatments that adapt to, influence and complement customer journeys, creating a distinct and engaging branded experience.
Ensure the team are constantly assessing the performance and effectiveness of the experiences you design, taking on-board customer feedback, reviews and external commentary, embedding a culture of optimisation and iteration to improve deliveries.
Be a driving force behind our agile delivery approach, collaborating across our delivery teams to ensure we’re constantly improving our customer facing platforms, aligned to business delivery plans and customer feedback.
Handle all outputs across the team, ensuring quality, effective workflow management, approvals and audit trails. Take personal responsibility for identifying and handling the risks associated with the role.
Develop the team to ensure market leading capabilities in respect to the relevant design disciplines, maintaining an external perspective on premier design and consumer trends.
8-10 years design experience, evidencing design work across multiple platforms, specifically mobile apps. Solid portfolio of work evidencing design credentials.
At least 3-5 years experience of leading visual design projects and deliveries, crafting visual style guidelines and being a lead contributor within a business.
Proficient in Adobe CS and Sketch.
Strong understanding of User Centred Design standard methodology and improvisation.
Experience of working in cross-discipline design teams with exposure to designing customer journeys and a strong appreciation of UX and developer disciplines.
Experience of working in an agile team with the ability to take the lead and drive delivery on a continual basis.
Evidence of strong conceptual thinking and understanding of premier design, embracing new technologies and creative thinking.
A solid understanding or intuitive interaction, user interfaces, user experience and navigation principles.
Ability to give and receive constructive feedback, to coach and develop both self and team, to continually raise the bar.
Ability to understand and interpret business strategy and brand positioning, understanding the role design plays and being able to lead the translation into team deliveries.
Extraordinary communications skills with oral and written confidence in presenting compelling ideas to all levels in the organisation.
