QA Automation Engineer Ronald James Group 2027-01-12

We’re working with an established FinTech business in Newcastle that is looking for a QA Automation Engineer to join its growing team.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on strengthening QA capability through automation, AI-assisted testing and continuous improvement.

You’ll build, maintain and execute automated UI and API test suites, helping to improve software quality, reduce repetitive manual testing and support faster, more confident software delivery.

Working closely with Product, Engineering, QA and other internal stakeholders, you’ll help identify testing risks, investigate defects and ensure testing remains aligned with delivery priorities.

Please note, this is a hybrid role in Newcastle.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Design, maintain and execute automated UI and API tests using Playwright, Cypress, Selenium or equivalent frameworks

  • Use AI-assisted testing tools to support test creation, maintenance, failure analysis, defect triage and regression risk identification

  • Write clear, reliable and maintainable test code

  • Run automated tests through CI/CD pipelines

  • Debug failing tests and identify issues across products, tests, data and environments

  • Maintain stable, relevant and efficient regression test suites

  • Review requirements and technical changes to identify test scenarios, edge cases and automation opportunities

  • Investigate and clearly document defects

  • Use test results, defect trends and pipeline feedback to identify improvements to QA practices

  • Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering and QA teams

What We’re Looking For:

  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining automated UI and API tests

  • Experience with Playwright, Cypress, Selenium or similar

  • Practical experience using AI-assisted testing tools

  • Experience writing maintainable test code

  • Knowledge of source control, pull requests and code reviews

  • Experience running automated tests within CI/CD pipelines

  • Strong understanding of regression testing, test data and test environments

  • Strong knowledge of QA practices, test design and defect management

  • Experience working within Agile delivery teams

  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to improving automation and QA practices
